However, some companies and individuals still need their checks for payment. How to write a check? It is important to know so the error in writing a check can be avoided. Failed to properly fill out a check can have consequences ranging from difficulties in cashing a check for errors in your bank account.

Here are the steps quickly and easily write a check:

Use a pen, never use pencil. Write the first available blank check, beginning with the date written on the top right corner of the check. You may use any format as long as it is easy to read. Use one of today’s date or a future date for post-dated checks.

Write down the name of the person or company that receives your check on the line that begins with “Pay to the Order of” or “Debt.” Write the full name of the recipient, such as “Philip Teddy”, not “Philip” or “Philip T.” Businesses sometimes allow you to abbreviate the title company; Alphabet Utility District may receive a check made out to “ACU”, for example.

Write the dollar amount you would pay in a small box that starts a dollar sign ($). If you write a check for $ 2,200 you would write “2,200.00″. And you can also write a dollar amount by a fraction less than one dollar for example $ 45.46.

Write down the amount of your check on the line followed by the “dollar” phrase. For example as above, you would write “two thousand two hundred and no/100 Dollar”. Or for a dollar amount by a fraction less than one dollar was the “forty five and 46/100 Dollar”. Give a straight line if there is space left after you write the phrase Dollar. E.g. “forty five and 46/100———–dollar”.

Fill out the signature line on the bottom right. Do not forget to write your full name as it appears on the check.

Dollar numbers that you have written on the check before, write the numbers on a piece of check again on the left, along with the recipient’s name, so you’ll know how much money you have left in your account to pay checks that you wrote earlier.

Use the line on the bottom left of your check to write additional information. For example, if a check is written is to pay your rent bill for the month you should write the apartment owner’s account number on this line.
